I am a first generation Peruvian American and a fluent Spanish speaker, so I’ve always been the natural choice to translate for family and friends. I didn’t mind it at all – in fact, it was during those years of my life that I realized how much I enjoyed helping people and being their advocate.
Naturally, this led me to discover my love for nursing. I began working towards my dream of becoming a nurse in high school through regular rotations at my city’s hospital. Encouraged by my high school teacher and mentor, I began working as a nurse’s aide before applying to nursing school. There, I met my husband and we have been each other’s rock and biggest supporters ever since.
For the past seven years, I have worked as a nurse in different specialties – from surgical to cardiac. The one thing that I always bring with me, no matter where I work, is my strong work ethic, beliefs and values. I see myself and everyone around me as students of life and believe in the power of infinite learning. Like a trusty worker bee who’s always on the move, my goal is to contribute to creating a greatly improved healthcare ecosystem by being actively involved in the process.
